| Chronological
CV
This
format is the more standard CV and is popular with employers.
It shows an overall history of your career progression, skills
and qualifications. Suggested format could be:
• Employment history – start with most recent
• Additional activities and skills - stating relevant
or transferable skills
• Education/qualifications – start with most recent
or impressive. Leave out irrelevant qualifications
Functional
CV
This format is a way of placing emphasis on your
relevant skills and strengths which gives you a chance to
describe yourself as to what you can do rather than to discuss
previous jobs. Some employers don’t like this format
of CV as there can be hidden gaps in your history. It is a
good idea to include a brief history of work experience and
qualifications.
It is a good idea to use a functional CV if:
• This will be your first job
• You’ve had many short-term jobs
• Been unemployed
• Returning to work after a break
• Changing your career
